Parañaque whittles down city’s coronavirus infections to less than 400

The City of Paranaque is winning its battle against the coronavirus disease, as it listed the number of active cases down to just 393 as of Thursday.

Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the city’s total number of recoveries from the COVID-19 climbed to 5,526 or 91 percent with only 393 active cases or 6.5 percent of the city’s 6,070 confirmed cases, including patients with unknown home addresses.

Olivarez said the city’s health department recently freed from confinement at least 548 recovered patients.

The city chief executive, however, reminded his constituents not to be complacent or be upbeat with the recent recovery rate report, and instead continue to follow the health protocols and preventive measures against the dreaded disease.

Olivarez, who chairs the Metro Manila Council, claimed on Wednesday the National Capital Region may shift to the lowest quarantine level by November if the decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the region is sustained.

“If the trend continues, the decline in cases and recovery reach 90 percent, the local government units in the recovery continue to impose discipline in our constituents, I believe by end of October we can end GCQ (general community quarantine), hopefully, with God’s grace, this coming November we may shift to MGCQ (modified GCQ),” he said.

Olivarez also said other Metro Manila mayors would also study the easing of curfew hours.

Meanwhile, Dr. Darius Sebastian, chief of the City’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU), reported that Barangay Moonwalk now has the highest active COVID-19 cases among the city’s 16 barangays with 62 individuals infected.

Sebastian said Barangay San Isidro has the second highest number of active cases at 67, with 13 deaths as of Tuesday.

The active cases in Barangay Sun Valley have increased to 46 for past one week with 14 fatalities, the third highest reported in the city.
