Letran: No training until face-to-face classes allowed

Resumption of training among varsity athletes will not be allowed until face-to-face classes will be allowed to resume as well.

NCAA management committee chairman Fr. Vic Calvo of Season 96 host Colegio de San Juan de Letran said this is the position of the league at the moment.

Calvo said this following an announcement from Malacanang that varsity players from different disciplines can resume training in general community quarantine and modified general community quarantine areas.

“The position of the NCAA is that if there is no face-to-face classes, we won’t allow face-to-face practice,” said Calvo in a statement.

The Mancom will meet on Thursday to look at the guidelines that the Commission on Higher Education is crafting.

“That position stays for now, but we’ll meet on Thursday and see what’s the guideline of CHED,” added Calvo.

“CHED is meeting today to craft the guideline. I asked Paul Supan of Jose Rizal University and Herc Callanta of Lyceum to attend the online meeting.”

A Technical Working Group has been formed after CHED chairman Prospero de Vera III had a meeting with University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics Dean Francis Diaz and Chooks-to-Go 3×3 tournament director Eric Altamirano.

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines would most likely be in the picture in shaping the TWG’s recommendations since Diaz is part of the UAAP Board of Managing Directors.

De Vera said a small group of schools will first be involved in crafting the policies.

But others will be involved after the initial meeting next week of the TWG. Peter Atencio
