Huawei launches Learn on Program at Philippine ICT Talent Online Summit

Huawei Technologies Phils., Inc. hosted the Philippine ICT Talent Online Summit and launched the Learn On program, which aims to support online digital education in the Philippines.

Huawei announced the availability of the Learn On program, which provides high quality resources on an online open platform to support the distance learning requirement during the pandemic and to ensure the development of a comprehensive ICT talent ecosystem and to pave the way to sustainable digital transformation.

 Distinguished guests at the Philippine ICT Talent Online Summit include Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago “Chito” Sta. Romana, Commission on Higher Education Chairperson J. Prospero De Vera III, University of the Philippines Diliman Chancellor Dr. Fidel Nemenzo, National ICT Confederation of the Philippines President Michael Tiu Lim President of NICP, and Philippine internet pioneer and Mapúa University professor Dr. William Torres. They were joined by Huawei Executives in the event. 

Todd Liu, President of Huawei Enterprise Business Group, stated, “In the Philippines, our strategic planning embraces digital technology and encourages its development in the education sector to facilitate continuing education by Filipinos. Using information technology, we hope to boost accessibility to education services as well as equality and effectiveness of learning.”

Dr. William Torres, who also served as keynote speaker, shared his insights on the development of ICT talents, postulating on a digital ecosystem approach.

Meanwhile, Michael Macdonald, Huawei Asia Pacific Chief Digital Officer introduced the Huawei Talent Ecosystem and Learn On Program, stating, “The program will provide high-quality academic resources on an open platform, including access to online training to enhance students’ knowledge. The collaboration seeks to ensure educational continuity on various topics such as Cloud, AI, 5G, IoT, and big data. To further encourage students to participate in the knowledge-building program, Huawei will provide trainees with FREE HCI Certification in various technical domains.” Information on the Huawei Learn On Program can be accessed via https://e.huawei.com/en/talent.

Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana said, “Innovation is essential to the development of the Philippines, and ICT talents, especially (those) with (access to) the latest technologies would benefit the future of the country. The launch of Huawei Learn On Program is timely, since it will allow students to continue with their education in the safety of their houses.”

Commission on Higher Education Chairperson J. Prospero De Vera expressed his support for the program and stated, “New technologies like AI, Big data, 5G would change the world and create a digital world, and the ICT talents would be the key components of achieving the new digital society. I thank Huawei for launching this program, which is very much aligned and responsive to the demands of the disrupted and complex world that we live in today, especially with the current global health pandemic brought about by COVID-19.” 

University of the Philippines Diliman Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo encouraged the academe and students to support the program, saying, “Through programs like Huawei ICT Academy, Huawei is promoting and enhancing digital learning in our country.” 

Meanwhile, Michael Tiu Lim, President of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines said expressed this gratitude for launching Learn On program, adding, “Thank you for bringing Huawei Learn ON Program to the Philippines”.

Moreover, Huawei ICT Academy and Learn On Program will undertake the following to support the local talent development and digital learning in the Philippines:

1. Huawei ICT Academy Development Incentive Fund (ADIF) will be allocated for partner education institutions to run online activities such as courses, training, and research projects.

2. More than 130 MOOC resources will be opened up, covering advanced technical fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, 5G, and Internet of Things (IoT).

3. More than 100 online Train the Trainer (TTT) programs will be provided for 2020, and more than 1500 teachers are expected to be trained.

4. Nine Courses – Huawei Routing and Switching, WLAN, Security, IoT, Cloud Service, Storage, Cloud Computing, Big Data and Ai.

In closing the event, Daniel Guo Zhi, Huawei Vice President, stated, “Huawei is committed to providing inclusive and equitable quality education opportunities for all people from all regions, working with more partners through ICT innovations and contributing to the overall healthy development of society. This summit is held under such a background, wherein we have officials and experts from CHED, universities, colleges and industries. Let’s work together through the Huawei ICT Academy, to further our work so that the learning never stops.”
