Marcelo H. del Pilar, regarded as the “Father of Philippine Journalism” whose pen name Plaridel is synonymous with the propaganda reform movement during the Spanish colonial period, marked his 170th birth anniversary on August 30. The Association of Philippine Journalists (also known as Samahang Plaridel) observed the event with a wreath-laying at the hero’s monument in Ermita, Manila. Shown in photo are APJ officers (from right) Jullie Yap Daza, Jun Icban, Rollie Estabillo and Hector Villacorta.
