President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Philippine Commission on Women commissioner Sandra Sanchez-Montano as the agency’s chairperson, replacing Rhodora Bucoy who resigned from her post on July 7, Malacañang said Thursday.
Montano, a nurse by profession and founder of Community, Health, Education, Emergency Response Services Corporation, was appointed as PCW commissioner representing the science and health sector last year.
Palace spokesperson Harry Roque made the announcement in a public press briefing.
Bucoy, a former university professor, served as PCW chairwoman since her appointment in October 2016.
The PCW likewise denied reports that President Duterte fired Bucoy, who was appointed in October 2016.
The commission is the government’s policy-making and oversight agency tasked in promoting gender equality and women empowerment in the country.
