PH poomsae team members doing home programs

Members of the national poomsae team have gone back into home training.

National training director Igor Mella said this after the end of the first-ever SMART/MVP Sports Foundation Online National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.

“All of the national team of poomsae and kyorugi are doing home programs,” said Mella.

Mella said the preparations of the national squad, including those from the kyorugi style, have not stopped training since the lockdowns began.

Because of this, outstanding jins like Jocel Lyn Ninobla was able to be better prepared when she claimed the gold medal last month.

It was her second online crown this year, following a European tournament two months ago when she clinched the gold in the Under-30 Female Division of the first-ever Online Daedo Open European Poomsae Championships in Spain.

Ninobla is best remembered during her final year with University of Santo Tomas when she took home the gold in the women’s individual event in her last year back in Season 80.

Another teammate Aidane Laxa is staying sharp as well, after settling for the silver medal with 8.150 points.

Focus on their preparations at home also helped SEA Games silver medallist Patrick Perez get the gold in the men’s side. Peter Atencio
