The Baby Uno chess challenge, which resume on June 14 (Sunday), gets a big boost as Philippine E-9 chess club announced its sponsorship of the online tournament featuring the country’s finest woodpushers.
Thirteen-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr., the inaugural champion and Grandmaster Darwin Laylo head the list of participants that includes International Master Barlo Nadera, Fide Master Dale Bernardo and National Master Robert Arellano, among others.
“In behalf of the Philippine E-9 chess club here in South Korea, we will support the Baby Uno chess challenge online tournament,” said Jun Jun Jabay, top honcho of the Philippine E-9 chess club, the only Filipino chess club in South Korea.
Other sponsors of the free registration tournament using the three minutes plus two seconds increment blitz time control format include Philippine Executive Chess Association president Dr. Fred Paez, Dr. Jenny Mayor, Espana Chess Club boss engineer. Ernie Faeldonia, McDaniel Ebao, Teddy Cu, Pretty Zada Skincare Product, Europe gaming consultant sportsman Kim Zafra, Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based Jimmy Reyes and Auckland, New Zealand based Jun Isaac.
Meanwhile, Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. ruled via tie break the 1st Baby Uno chess challenge online blitz tournament last Friday at the lichess.org.
Antonio, tied for first and second places with Grandmaster (GM) Mark Paragua with 13.5 apiece in the three minutes plus two seconds in the increment time control event organized by Bayanihan chess club led by AGM Marlon Bernardino and Genghis Imperial.
It was backed by Europe based gaming consultant sportsman Kim Zafra, Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based Jimmy Reyes, Mr. Danilo Ebao and Pretty Zada Skincare Product.
With the highest tie break points, Antonio took the title while Paragua finished second.
Batangas non-master bet Doodeel “Dudz “ Libongcogon finished solo third with 13 points.
