The selection for the next Rotary International District 3780 Governor has ended as District Governor Bernadette Herrera announced the election of FVR family biographer Melandrew Velasco as District Governor Nominee Designate for RY 2022-2023.
The announcement came after all candidates for the governorship underwent screening and interview by the NOMCOM chaired by IPDG Pastor Mar Reyes.
Velasco, currently in the United States, was interviewed via online zoom.
In a statement posted by Velasco on his Facebook page, he thanked his fellow Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Cubao West where Velasco once served as Club President.
His election makes him the second Rotarian from RC Cubao West to become District Governor after 17 years.
The first was the late PDG Roberto Viray who served as District Governor for two terms in RY 2001-2002 and RY 2002-2003. Viray was considered by Velasco as his mentor in the Rotary organization, giving him tips on the rudiments of Rotary service.
In his statement, Velasco reached out to his fellow candidates, offering his hand of friendship.
He said: “In all candor and humility, I am reaching out to the district leaders and to all my fellow DGN
candidates, all worthy of respect and commitment to serve the district, and I offer my hand of friendship and appeal to them to rise above politics in the spirit of Unity, Solidarity and Teamwork.”
He also thanked his supporters who believed in his OPLAN ROTARY SMILE
platform where S stands for Service, Simplicity and Survey; M for Management, Membership
and Marketing; I for Information, Innovation, and Image/Identity; L for Leadership, Livelihood
and Legacy; and E for Empowerment, Excellence and Environment.
Velasco believes it is through this platform that Rotarians of District 3780 can be relevant during
these challenging times.
Chosen as one of the Outstanding Presidents in District 3780 in 2012, Velasco is also a Paul Harris Society Member and served as Silver President for RY 2011-2012.
He is the brains behind RID 3780’s The Rotary Golden Wheel Awards and RCCW’s Heart Matters Rotary Foundation, Inc. He is also a member of the JCI Senate Philippines where he served
last year as National chairman for the annual search of The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) Awards.
