Weed out illegal gaming operators, ASPAP urges

Following the approval for the limited operations of the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators in the country, the Accredited Service Providers Association of PAGCOR called on the government to continue weeding out illegal gaming operators in the country.

In a statement, ASPAP spokesperson Margarita Gutierrez said that the group is not condoning and tolerating any form of illegal online gambling operations as its existence prejudices the interests of legitimate POGO operators subjecting their members to unfair criticisms.

She added that they also welcome the recent arrest of persons in Makati and Paranaque City suspected of involvement in illegal gambling activities, as circumstances of the arrests clearly show unlawful operations.

“Our group is compliant with governmental requirements and certifications and faithfully follows the laws and regulations governing regular business operations,” said Gutierrez. “We support the continuing campaign of law enforcers against illegal gambling to weed out the industry of the undesirables.”

Gutierrez added that they are supporting the initiative of Rep. JB Bernos for improved regulatory processes to eliminate illegal gambling which erodes the reputation of the legitimate ones.

The ASPAP spokesperson also said that they are grateful for the government’s decision to allow limited resumption of POGO activities and reiterated that they are committed to comply with the conditions set by Malacañang, PAGCOR and the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases to ensure the safety of everyone.
