Mabalacat City, Pampanga – As host to one of the world’s semiconductor industry giants, this city’s officials has assured its support in providing workers that play key role in the production of microchips for much-needed ventilators that help save lives of COVID-19 patients.
Mayor Crisostomo “Cris” Garbo on Friday assured top executives of Texas Instruments (TI) in their visit to his office for courtesy visit and donation of rice and protective gears for frontliners.
Garbo assured them of the city’s help in ensuring the company’s workers unhampered passage to TI’s location that is within the territorial jurisdiction of this city. TI is situated on the northwestern side of Clark Freeport covered by the boundary of Mablacat City.
"I would like to assure you of any help that you need in the city of Mabalacat in the production of parts for any equipment that will be vital in battling COVID, particularly ferrying your employees to and from our city,” Mayor Garbo said during the simple turnover of TI’s aid to Mabalaqueños.
Since the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), TI has been operating on skeletal workforce but has gradually increased its production capacity.
At full operations, it has about 1,800 workers where majority come from this city. It is one of the top exporters among manufacturing companies inside Clark.
TI Clark Managing Director Sarjit Kaur said they intend to increase capacity in the coming days in order to help boost production of vital parts and microchips.
Details of specific type, quantities, demands of microchips, including export destinations were not disclosed in the meeting.
TI produces analog and embedded semiconductor chips, which are used by customers to develop virtually every type of electronic system and enable critical technology, including life-saving medical equipment needed to fight the virus and other infrastructure.
TI Clark led by Kaur handed over 7,500 kilos of rice; 3,000 pieces of surgical masks; 1,500 pairs of disposable medical gloves; 300 pieces of N95 masks; 300 pieces of safety goggles; and 270 pieces of face shields, to the city government.
“TI has always been committed to building stronger communities, ever since our founding,” Kaur said.
Kaur added the donation is to safeguard the frontliners and aid the city folk, as majority of their employees are residing in Mabalacat City.
Meanwhile, Converge ICT also donated 150 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPEs) for the frontliners. Converge, a leading cable tv operator and fiber optic provider in the Philippines is owned by Dennis Uy of Angeles City
Mayor Garbo thanked TI Clark and Converge ICT for handing over their donations to Mabalaqueños, particularly in this time of crisis brought by the pandemic.
“In behalf of the people of Mabalacat City, I would like to thank TI Clark and Converge. Your donations are a big help to the city and our people,” he said.
