International competitions and activities in triathlon are expected to resume by July.
The International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon Executive Board said this following meeting via teleconference last Thursday with member countries.
By that time, the threat coronavirus pandemic would have put under control.
“Lahat ng activities could startby July. And it will depend upon the situation concerning the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Triathlon Association of the Philippines chief Carrasco.
Carrasco joined the meeting, which evaluated the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the organization, as discussed the “evolving situation with events, athletes, coaches, officials and all the triathlon family.”
The ITU has informed member countries that all world triathlon events are currently suspended until June 30.
The board is currently meeting with the ITU operational working group, which is working with the five continental confederations on the calendar for resuming the events when the pandemic is over.
The Executive Board approved the general principles of the new Olympic and Paralympic qualification system, which were suspended when the pandemic forced organizers to stop holding international races early this year.
The approved principles have now been sent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for their approval.
The international meets which are under evaluation includes the staging of the Subic International Triathlon meet, which will now be held this November.
“We moved the date to November. That’s when it will resume,” said Carrasco.
