Former congressman and human rights lawyer Harry Roque was back Monday as the presidential spokesperson who resigned from his post to run in the 2019 midterm elections.
This was confirmed by President Rodrigo Duterte’s chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo who took the post of Roque as Palace spokesperson in October 2018 up to April 13, 2020.
“Yup (sic) Harry Roque will be back to his previous post. I’m still the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel. I will be performing the same role as the President’s chief lawyer and issuing statements as such,” Panelo told reporters in a text message.
Panelo, Duterte’s long time ally, will continue to work for Duterte as Chief Presidential Legal Counsel.
Roque resigned in October 2018 to run for a seat in the House of Representatives under Luntiang Pilipinas party-list.
However, Roque withdrew his candidacy days before the campaign period officially started due to health reasons.
While out of the political spotlight, Roque continued to practice law and represented the whistleblowers in the alleged PhilHealth dialysis fund scam.
