A first-term legislator on Tuesday called on the Armed Forces and communist-led New People’s Army to respect the ceasefire declared by President Rodrigo Duterte to hasten efforts to battle Covid-19 that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
Rizal Rep. Fidel Nograles made the call as an Army soldier and an NPA guerrilla were killed in a clash in Montalban, Rizal. The town is part of the province’s Second District that Nograles represents.
Capt. Jayrald Ternio of the Public Affairs Office of the Army’s Second Infantry Division, an estimated 30 NPA rebels attacked a group of 18 soldiers in barangay Puray at around 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Second Infantry Division, which maintains a detachment in Montalban, is based at Camp Mariano Castaneda in Tanay, Rizal, that also belongs to the province’s District.
