Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar called on city residents to seriously heed the advice of President Rodrigo Duterte to stay at home, as the government implements a community quarantine in Metro Manila to prevent and contain the spread of the fatal coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“Let us fully cooperate with the duly designated authorities and follow the advice of COVID-19 Task Force like practice social distancing, and avoid crowded places as the spread of the disease continues,” Aguilar said.
The mayor on Friday convened the City Anti-COVID Task Force with Vice Mayor April Aguilar and barangay officials to draft policy direction for maximum compliance to the inter-agency task force recommendation on community quarantine.
Aguilar earlier confirmed that a 53-year-old male resident, who has no history of travel abroad, tested positive for COVID-19 at Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center (District Hospital).
“The government hospital is now trying its best to take care of the patient who is now recovering and in stable condition,” Aguilar said.
Surveillance Team of Las Piñas City Health Office started conducting contact tracing on all family members of the patient as well as the community where he lives, she added.
Aguilar said a 24/7 COVID-19 Operation Center with hotlines (02) 8994-5782/ Globe – 09156481735 / Smart – 0928-4627034 is now in effect to serve as helpline for persons who believe they have symptoms of COVID-19.
The mayor urged residents who have symptoms to immediately seek medical treatment.
“The best way to help contain the spread of the disease is to stay at home and practice proper hygiene,” she stressed.
Aguilar also called on local police and barangay officials to strictly follow the rules on checkpoints laid down by the task force, and coordinate with health authorities to ensure the safety of the residents, as well as ensure peace and order.
