Still at it

"Trillanes–alias Bikoy, if I may add–continues to peddle lies and fake news on social media."

It’s a shame that we are beset yet again with a controversy over President Duterte’s “narco-list” with the inclusion in the dreaded roster of P/Lt. Col. Jovie Espenido, the brightest star in the government’s drug war since former PNP chief-turned-senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.

Espenido is best known for the killings of Rolando Espinosa, mayor of Albuera, Leyte and Reynaldo Parojinog, mayor of Ozamiz City who were both kingpins at the top of Duterte’s narcolist. Parojinog lorded over a notorious criminal gang whose trip to hell was long overdue.

But as part of the sweeping reorganization initiated by Philippine National Police Chief General Archie Gamboa, Espenido was relieved of his recent assignment as Bacolod City Police Chief and relegated to floating status. Suddenly, it then surfaced that Espenido all the while had been on the President’s narco-list since 2016.

Espenido has vehemently denied any involvement in illegal drugs trade except to lead anti-crime and anti-drugs operations since he entered the PNP in 1996 through lateral entry. He is not among the elite graduates of the Philippine Military Academy.

Politics is likely behind the latest controversy, said Espenido, who had openly expressed his desire to become PNP Chief during Duterte’s term. He claims to have been mistakenly included in the narco-list and had his name stricken off the list in 2017.

It made sense when Malacañang said the issue is all part of the usual black propaganda against the government’s drug war and that Espenido is assured of the President’s full support. "The President knows Colonel Espenido is clean," according to Presidential Spokesperson Sal Panelo.

Indeed it may be a diversionary tactic to take away public attention from the case against ex-senator Antonio “Bikoy” Trillanes and his cohorts who face charges for the “Bikoy video: Ang Totoong Narcolist” that maliciously implicated Manong Digong, Senator Bong Go, and his family in alleged illegal drugs trade.

I hope what the PNP has in possession now is not Trillanes’ Bikoy narco-list! Apparently, Trillanes alias Bikoy is still at it, peddling lies and fake news in social media.

It’s unfortunate that these rabid critics and Yellow Opposition would rather delve in dirty politics during this time of critical serious global and nationwide concern for the pandemic threat of coronavirus.

And all the while, the clear and present danger posed by drug lords in and out of the New Bilibid Prison lurks.

A potential key witness in the Senate probe into the massive irregularities in Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) Good Conduct Time Allowance was murdered in broad daylight outside his daughter’s school in Muntinlupa City.

In all likelihood, the illegal drugs mafia is behind the ruthless shooting of lawyer Fredrick Santos, suspended chief of Bucor Legal Section.

Over 10,000 hardened criminals, many of them drug dealers, bought their undeserved freedom through GCTA. They are now in our midst just like a deadly virus.
