BALANGA CITY”•Bataan recently joined the simultaneous celebration of the 1st Anniversary of the launching of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation project.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 3 Assistant Regional Director Arthur Salazar and Provincial Environment Officer Raul Mamac led other environment and local officials in the celebration here.
Cenro Bagac Ed Laggui and Cenro Dinalupihan Marife Castillo joined. Penros from other provinces in the region also participated.
The televised program in the province was held at Balanga Wetland and Nature Park in Barangay Tortugas.
In his message, Salazar lauded local DENR and LGU officials and the public for the successful Manila Bay Rehab in Bataan in the program that included capitol and city officials.
Last year, Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu declared Aguawan Beach in Brgy. Sisiman, Mariveles as the first swimmable portion of the Manila Bay.
Before the program, officials and personnel spearheaded by Salazar and Mamac conducted cleanup of the mangrove area in the nature park. Butch Gunio
Mamac said cleanup and mangrove planting was conducted in 14 sites in the province on Sunday.
Simultaneous activities for the celebration, aside from Bataan, were conducted in Manila Yacht Club; Baseco, Tondo; and Obando, Bulacan.
Cimatu and other top government officials held program at Manila Yacht Club.
Other local officials who joined the program at the nature park were Mariveles Mayor Jocas Castaneda, provincial tourism officer Alice Pizarro representing Gov. Abet Garcia, ex-city councilor Jett Nisay representing Rep. Joet Garcia, and city agriculturist Nerissa Mateo, among others.
