Taiwan donates $100,000 to ‘Tisoy’ victims in Sorsogon

On behalf of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Representative Peiyung Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines donated US$100,000 to the  Philippines as humanitarian assistance for the victims of Typhoon “Tisoy” which struck  Sorsogon. The check hand-over ceremony was held in the conference room of TECO office at 10 a.m, on Jan. 17, 2020. The donation was accepted by Vice Chairman Gilberto F. Lauengco of Manila Economic and Cultural Office. Gov. Francis “Chiz” Escudero of Sorsogon also attended the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Hsu said that as close neighbors, Taiwan always stands together with  friends in the Philippines whenever there is a need. 

 Escudero is an old friend of Taiwan. He has been a staunch supporter of  Taiwan’s endeavors since he was the Senator of the Philippines. “We are very glad that Taiwan can offer our help in return,” he said.

In addition, Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation, Philippines also distributed cash, rice and blankets from Taiwan to the victims in Bulan and Matnog of Sorsogon, hoping that people can recover from the disaster and rebuild their homeland soon. Looking ahead, Taiwan will continue working with the Philippines to enhance the welfare of our peoples. We hope friends in the Philippines will render their continued support for Taiwan.

 Lauengco and Escudero expressed their appreciation for the generosity shown by the government of Taiwan. The donation from Taiwan demonstrates strong friendship between Taiwan and the Philippines. 

 Escudero pledged to make the best use of the donation for the rehabilitation work in his province and said he hoped to work with Taiwan in the area of agriculture, higher education and technology to advance the development of the province. He also took the opportunity to congratulate  President Tsai Ing-wen on her reelection.
