Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has promised to extend the deadline for tax payments in the city from Jan. 20 to Feb. 2.
“Our business community has requested for additional period of time to allow them to fully comply with the requirements and obligations to the city,” she said.
“In Quezon City, we are open to suggestions and appeal. If they are reasonable, then we would accede to these requests,” Belmonte added.
The mayor said she would ask the 37-member city council to grant the appeal for an extension, saying such a move would require its approval.
As of Jan. 15, the city government reported that income from business permits and real property tax rose 16 and 29 percent, respectively, over the same period last year.
“The percentage would have been higher if there had been work on Jan. 13,” when work was suspended following the eruption of Taal Volcano, Belmonte said.
