President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. officially appointed Rear Admiral Jose Ma. Ezpeleta as the new Flag Officer-in-Command of the Philippine Navy in a change of command ceremony held at the Navy headquarters on Friday.
Ezpeleta replaced Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr., who is retiring after a distinguished career marked by modernization initiatives and strengthened regional partnerships.
During his remarks, President Marcos expressed his confidence in Ezpeleta’s ability to build on the legacy left by Adaci, citing Ezpeleta’s extensive experience and strong leadership.
The Commander-in-Chief praised Ezpeleta’s qualifications and highlighted the new Navy chief’s “competence, experience, and mental fortitude” as essential qualities for leading the Navy in challenging times.
“I expect the same, if not greater, leadership as we have seen from your predecessors,” President Marcos said, addressing Ezpeleta.
“Given your background and the high standards set by those before you, I am confident you will continue to lead with integrity, advancing the Navy’s mission and furthering our maritime security goals,” he added.
Ezpeleta, who has worked closely with Adaci, is expected to continue the Navy’s modernization efforts, focusing on enhancing the Navy’s capabilities in both defense and humanitarian assistance.
The Commander-in-Chief emphasized the importance of this work, especially as the Philippines faces evolving security challenges, especially in the maritime region.
As the new head of the Philippine Navy, Ezpeleta will oversee operations, strategic planning, and efforts to strengthen regional alliances.
President Marcos closed by offering his full support to Ezpeleta as he takes on his new role, urging him to continue steering the Navy forward with dedication and resolve.
