Buoyed by Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez’s stable and impressive trust and performance ratings, two Mindanao House leaders on Sunday expressed support and gave the assurance to work even harder under his leadership in making the chamber more relevant to Filipinos.
Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Adiong, ad hoc committee on Marawi rehabilitation and victims compensation chairman Zia Alonto Adiong, and Davao de Oro Rep. Maria. Carmen Zamora, special committee on strategic intelligence chairperson, vowed to give their best in the remaining months of the 19th Congress.
“This (positive survey results) gives us the impetus to work even more. It gives us the motivation precisely because we see that people appreciate the efforts of the House leadership to uncover the real truth behind the lies on every issue that have been peddled to us before,” Adiong said.
The House of Representatives continues its inquiry on alleged irregularities in the previous administration – from summary executions to illegal Philippine offshores and gaming operators and illegal drugs.
Zamora said Romualdez deserves all the accolades for working too hard since mid-2022 to bring the House where it is now, a legislative institution that went beyond its mandate by consistently pushing people’s interests.
“The Speaker’s high ratings incentivizes us even more. We are now on a high morale because these figures further boost our morale. At least we know that we’re reaping the fruits of everybody’s labor – from the quad committee to the committee on good government and so on,” he said.
“Under the Speaker’s leadership, we have shown that congressmen are hardworking and are ready to take the challenge, like spending long hours in hearings if only to ferret out the truth. We strictly observe and apply Congress’ oversight functions,” he added.
“Rest assured, this House will not rest with its laurels. We’ll do whatever it takes to produce meaningful legislation that will ease the heavy burden to a vast majority of our population, and make sure that all of these trickle down or are really felt by the masses,”he stated.
As per the results of the Tugon ng Masa survey of OCTA Research last September, the Speaker got an overall trust rating of 61 percent.
He obtained 58% trust in the National Capital Region, 68 percent in Balance of Luzon, 62% in Visayas and 48% in Mindanao. Among economic groups, he had 64% in ABC, 61% in D and 59% in E.
The Speaker’s overall performance mark was 62%, with 61% in NCR, 68% in BL, 66% in Visayas and 45% in Mindanao.
