RTWPB approves wage hike in Western Visayas

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) approved a new wage order in Western Visayas for private sector employees and domestic workers.

The pay increase is aimed at delivering much-needed relief to workers across the region.

Effective November 17, Wage Order No. RBVI-28 will raise daily wages by PHP 33 to PHP 40 for private sector workers, while domestic workers will receive a monthly boost of PHP 1,000.

For non-agricultural, industrial, and commercial workers in businesses with over 10 employees, the daily wage will increase from PHP 480 to PHP 513.

Those working in establishments with fewer than 10 employees will see their daily rate rise from PHP 450 to PHP 485. Meanwhile, workers in the agriculture sector will have their minimum wage raised from PHP 440 to PHP 480.

Domestic workers, locally known as “kasambahay,” will see their minimum pay increase from PHP 5,000 to PHP 6,000 per month.

This wage hike is expected to directly benefit over 193,000 minimum-wage earners in the region and indirectly impact more than 300,000 workers earning above the minimum wage.

Additionally, over 160,000 domestic workers—31% of whom are in live-in arrangements—will benefit from the new rates.

The wage order was submitted to the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) on October 28, with publication set for November 1.

This adjustment follows the region’s last wage increase implemented just a year ago as authorities respond to economic pressures on local workers.
