Ex-VP Leni slams Naga LGU’s “irresponsible” report on donations to typhoon victims

Former Vice President Leni Robredo criticized a summary report posted on Naga LGU’s official Facebook page showing that Angat Buhay Foundation, the non-governmental organization founded by Robredo herself, only donated 200 relief packs to families affected by “Kristine” and “Leon.”

In a now deleted post, among the 23,389 flood packs distributed so far to different Naga City barangays, only 200 came from Angat Buhay.

Meanwhile, the report also reflected that 2,055 came from the local government, 4,000 from the OVP, 17,584 from DSWD, and 800 from Sen. Revilla.

“I need to call the attention of the City Government of this irresponsible post. We are able to do our relief operations because of the generosity of our private partners and the selflessness of our thousands of volunteers,” Robredo said.

She also added that in Naga alone, Angat Buhay is deploying 1,200 volunteers on average.

“We have been doing relief operations since Day 1 and to claim that we only released 200 packs in Naga will make a mockery of the sacrifices of everyone who has been helping us,” she continued.

“As part of the Naga City Government, I deeply apologize to Angat Buhay, its partners and volunteers. We are grateful for all the efforts and support of AB,” said Hubert Brocales, Executive Director of Metro Naga Development Council.

Meanwhile, Robredo also provided an update that fewer barangays are under water and shared her hope that Naga will transition to the rehabilitation phase by November 1.

“While relief operations will still continue outside Naga through our Angat Bayanihan network, we will be receiving in-kind donations at the Museo ng Pag Asa only until today, October 30,” she said.

“We will endeavor to finish distributing all the relief goods sent by our generous donors tomorrow so that our volunteers will be able to spend time with their families after more than a week doing relief operations.”
