IF fans ask Jayson “Dumangmang Warrior” Miralpez what they can expect from his ONE Championship debut, he’d rather let his fists do the talking.
The 20-year-old Bicolano rising star gets his shot at the big stage when he battles Robson “The Monkey King” de Oliveira at ONE Friday Fights 85 on November 1 inside Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
“I’m really nervous because this is the first time I’ll be competing in ONE Championship,” he said.
“Let me just say, I’m nervous in interviews but, when I get in the ring, I won’t be nervous at all. I’ll be giving my 100 percent, everything I can give, so I don’t waste this opportunity.”
It was only three years ago when Miralpez turned to Warriors MMA Academy and coach Marlon Malaluan for guidance, and he’s already turned into one of the most exciting rising stars in the country.
Coming from a troubled youth, the fighter from Camarines Norte found his calling in the world of combat sports, particularly in MMA, as he’s already won three professional fights – all by knockout.
“My improvements have been fast because I almost never stop training,” he said.
“It’s like my brain and body have adjusted already. My skills have levelled up. We train three times a day and that’s why I levelled up quickly.”
Taking a huge step by battling the Brazilian veteran in his debut on the international stage, he’s excited to show what he can do when the world is watching.
“I look at this as a challenge. Being the first fighter from Bicol to compete in ONE Friday Fights, I don’t plan to put this to waste,” he said.
“I’ll take every opportunity to win in this fight, but if I’m to decide, it will be a knockout. It’s a good feeling to have.”
