Team Fnatic Onic Philippines emerged victorious in a seven-game showdown against Team Aurora, winning 4-3 in the Grand Finals of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines Season 14 (MPL S14) playoffs.
The Sonics, as Fnatic is collectively known, strategically deployed a combination of high-damage heroes and defensive maneuvers, holding off Aurora until the decisive Game 7 of their best-of-seven series on Saturday night at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati.
In the final moments of the 22-minute Game 7, midlaner Francis Miguel “Super Frince” Ramirez secured two critical late-game kills with his level 15 Vexana mage hero, leading the Sonics to an 11-7 victory.
Fnatic Onic Philippines claimed the top prize of $35,000, while Aurora settled for the second-place prize of $20,000.
King Cydric “K1ngkong” Perez showcased his mastery of MLBB’s newest hero, Suyou, throughout the series, helping propel the Sonics to the championship and dethroning the previous champions, Falcons AP.Bren.
The Falcons, who won last year’s title and the 2023 Southeast Asian Games gold for Team Sibol, were eliminated in the upper bracket finals by the Sonics in a 1-3 loss.
“I felt the intensity of Game 7. I saw the emotions. It was different. Chapter One is done, and we’re on to the next,” said Sonics coach Anthony “Ynot” Senedrin, reflecting on the hard-fought victory.
The Sonics now prepare for the M6 World Championships next month, a qualification they secured by advancing to the Grand Finals against Aurora.
Earlier in the series, Game 2 saw Ramirez, as Gatotkaca, a defensive-minded tank/fighter, lead the Sonics to a 13-6 win with six kills, pushing them to a 2-0 series lead.
In Game 4, Grant Duane “Kelra” Pillas’ Harith, with its damage-reducing abilities, slowed Aurora’s offense, allowing Fnatic to secure a 17-5 victory in just 15 minutes and 40 seconds.
However, Aurora fought back. In Game 5, they turned the tide, overcoming a 7-9 deficit with a synchronized attack to destroy Fnatic’s base in 14 minutes and 53 seconds.
Aurora’s resilience carried into Game 6, where Jonard Cedric “Demonkite” Caranto delivered a clutch double kill with the Alpha fighter hero, leading his team to a 13-11 win and forcing a Game 7 with a series-tying 3-3 scoreline. However, Fnatic’s heroics in the final game sealed their victory, crowning them as the new MPL Philippines champions.
