PNP to boost presence ahead of ‘Undas,’ holiday season

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will increase its presence in malls, public transportation hubs, and other high-density areas as part of heightened security measures during the holiday season, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said on Tuesday.

In a Palace briefing, Remulla noted that while Undas (All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day) does not typically see a spike in crime, there is a noticeable rise in crimes against persons and property as November and December approach, particularly in urban centers.

“More important is the coming Christmas season. By November and December, there’s an uptick in crimes, especially in high-density areas,” Remulla said.

He added that the PNP has been instructed to double its presence, especially in places like malls, public transport stations, and the LRT and MRT, where incidents of pickpocketing and theft are common.

‘We are putting marshals on the trains and increasing police visibility in all public areas,” Remulla said, assuring the public these efforts aim to make the holiday season safer and more secure for everyone.
