‘Locking’ master Klockwise named Red Bull Dance Your Style champ

ONE-ON-ONE dance battles, a DJ playing spontaneous tunes, and the crowd deciding the winner—that’s what the finalists were up against at the local finals of Red Bull Dance Your Styles on Sept 28.

At the legendary Kilometer Zero in Luneta Park, big moves and huge energy turned the evening into a feel-good showdown between the dancers.

Klockwise, known for his locking and freestyle moves, emerged on top. He will represent the Philippines at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Finals to be held in Mumbai, India on November 9.

Hailing from Valenzuela, Klockwise bested 15 other dancers of various styles across the Philippines, beating three on his way to the crown.

Unlike most dance competitions, Red Bull Dance Your Style sees the crowd choosing the winner during a battle between two dancers instead of a panel of judges, with an extra round often called to break a tie.

“I’m so happy,” he said in a statement. “I’ve gone through a lot from the Manila qualifiers, to the finals. I’m so grateful that I got to experience this. Thank you Red Bull and to the whole dance community.”

Klockwise has continuously honed his craft with his determination through rehearsals and competitions, always pushing to grow his talent and learn new skills. He was out of words when he was asked about his upcoming participation in the World Finals.

“I can’t think about it just yet. It might take some time for it to sink in, but the opportunity is mine, so I will fully grab it. I will happily represent the dance community and the entire Philippines in the World Finals,” he added. .
