Kevin Santos’ clutch undergoal stab with 14 seconds remaining lifted the Letran Knights to a thrilling 71-69 upset over the College of St. Benilde Blazers on Sunday in the 100th NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.
Santos, who had missed his previous five attempts, made his only basket of the game count, securing Letran’s third win in five outings.
The Blazers had a chance to snatch victory, but Jose Eusebio’s two hurried three-point attempts at the buzzer missed the mark.
“I just told them to keep the game close so that in the end, we’d have a chance,” said Letran coach Allen Ricardo.
Vince Cuajao led the way for the Knights, finishing with 20 points.
