Manila Water Co. Inc. said it is carrying out a maintenance project at its Marikina North Sewage Plant (STP) and terminal pumping station (TPS) to ensure service reliability and strict compliance with the environmental standards set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Part of the project involves the installation of additional sewage submersible pumps, nominal diameter (DN) 400 and 500 pipes, and a full-bore electro-magnetic flowmeter.
These enhancements will increase the plant’s capacity and redundancy, ensuring continuous wastewater treatment even during peak flow periods.
Electrical upgrades were also implemented, including the installation of an auxiliary supply and control transformer, a motor isolator and disconnect switch, and the integration of new soft starters with the existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
These improvements, which are expected to be completed by October, will help ensure the facility’s adaptability to current operations.
Manila Water said it is investing in the future resilience of its wastewater management services while maintaining its 100-percent score in its wastewater effluent quality by upgrading the SCADA system and enhancing the power supply infrastructure of the Marikina North STP and TPS.
“Manila Water believes these improvements in our wastewater services will not just be beneficial for our customers but also to our waterways. Upgrading the efficiency of our wastewater treatment plants will ensure our effluent water will not harm the health of our rivers,” said Manila Water corporate communication affairs group director Jeric Sevilla.
Manila Water’s 26 wastewater facilities achieved a 100-percent score in wastewater effluent quality compliance to MWSS Regulatory Office’s scorecard relative to the applicable general effluent standards set in the issued wastewater discharge permits to the treatment facilities by either Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR) or the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) in June.
This exceeds the 95-percent target for the indicator.
