Senator JV Ejercito on Sunday said he sees dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo as only a “pawn” in a bigger web of an international syndicate.
This assertion of Sen. Ejercito is contrary to the strong belief of lawmakers that Guo or Guo Hua Ping is a major player in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) illegally operating in the country.
They maintain that the former mayor was equally as guilty as Huang Zhiyang, a Chinese fugitive with links to the Chinese triads, the most powerful organized crime syndicate in China.
Despite this, Sen. Ejercito rejected Guo’s alibi that no Filipino helped with her escape.
In her testimonies during Senate hearings on POGOs, Guo mentioned foreign nationals who helped her escaped and move around abroad after fleeing the country.
She also strongly denied that Sual Mayor Liseldo Calugay assisted in her escape, as well as “romantic links” with him and his involment with her POGO operations in Bamban.
Sen. Ejercito also urged his fellow senators to heed Guo’s request for an executive session wherein she will divulge details of the POGO operations.
