‘Like a bar exam’: DepEd requests private sector support for PISA preparation

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Saturday encouraged its private sector partners to support the agency’s priority initiatives, including the preparations for the upcoming Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) next year.

Education Assistant Secretary for Curriculum and Teaching Janir T. Datukan shared an overview of PISA implemented by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). He also presented the general plan and activities in preparation for PISA.

Designed and developed by the OECD, PISA is a periodic international comparative study that tests the ability of 15-year-old students to use their knowledge and skills in reading, mathematics, and science in real-world situations.

“We intend to provide them (teachers and learners) with the resources. So it’s going to be like a bar exam,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said during the Senate Committee on Finance Deliberations on the DepEd’s fiscal year 2025 budget proposal.

The forum also discussed possible improvements to the Senior High School (SHS) Work Immersion program to enhance the employability of SHS students.

Moreover, the Education Department mentioned possible support for teachers’ professional development and career enhancement in compliance with quality standards.
