Biggest EV summit in PH set for 12th edition this October
The 12th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) is set to take place from October 24 to 26, 2024, at the SMX Convention Center Manila, marking the country’s largest annual exhibition and conference dedicated to electric vehicles (EVs). This year’s theme, “Spark Change, Drive Electric,” aims to catalyze a transformative shift in transportation and mobility.
Edmund Araga, President of the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), emphasized the summit’s role in promoting a cleaner, electric future. “The 12th PEVS is designed to ignite a powerful call to action for a transformative shift in mobility,” he stated. The event will showcase the latest technologies, innovations, and products from leading EV brands, creating a platform for stakeholders to engage and collaborate.
The summit comes on the heels of the EV Industry Development Act (EVIDA), which was enacted two years ago and has laid the groundwork for the Comprehensive Roadmap for the EV Industry (CREVI). This roadmap, introduced by the Department of Energy (DOE) in 2023, serves as a guiding framework for EV stakeholders across the nation.
Government agencies are also playing a crucial role in promoting EV adoption. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is implementing the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) to encourage local businesses to transition to EVs. Meanwhile, President Ferdinand ‘Bong Bong’ Marcos has mandated that EVs comprise 10 percent of government fleets, doubling the EVIDA requirement.
In 2023, EV sales surged to 10,602 units, a significant increase from just 1,072 in 2022. This upward trend is expected to continue, especially during the peak sales months from September to December.
The summit promises to be an invaluable experience for EV enthusiasts, featuring a series of online training sessions in collaboration with EVall Electric Vehicle Service prior to the event. Registration is free and available online at pevsummit.com. The event is co-presented by major sponsors, including BYD, Hyundai, and Nissan, showcasing the growing commitment to a sustainable transportation future in the Philippines.
