Ernest John Obiena cleared 5.82 meters for a joint third-place finish at the 2024 Lausanne Diamond League at the Athletissima at the Place de la Navigation in Lausanne, Switzerland on Wednesday.
Obiena’s performance came two weeks after he settled for fourth place in the Paris Olympics.
Obiena, who slipped to no. 3 in the world after his Paris campaign, tried to go higher but failed in all his three attempts at 5.92 meters.
The finish put Obiena in a three-way tie at third with Sondre Guttormsen of Norway and Australian Kurtis Marschall.
Two-time reigning Olympic champion Armand Duplantis easily took the gold at the 6.00m mark.
Duplantis tried going for the meet record 6.15m in three jumps, but did not make it.
Seven-time Diamond League champion Renaud Lavillenie equalled his season’s best with 5.72m, while the USA’s Chris Nilsen bowed out early at 5.62m.
The Athletissima meeting is the 11th leg of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League.
It is one of four remaining chances for athletes to earn points and qualify for the series final in Brussels, slated from September 13 to 14.
