Comelec denies over 130 party-list applications for 2025 elections

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has denied the application of over 130 party-lists to participate in the coming 2025 midterm elections.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the poll body rejected their applications over failure to submit the complete requirements for eligibility to participate in the elections.

Comelec will announce the complete final list of party-lists before the end of August and is set to conduct the raffling of numbers for the eligible groups by the second week of September.

The poll body will also require the eligible party-lists to submit ten nominees and will no longer allow the submission of additional list of names.

“At least 200 applied and we only accredited 30. This is the lowest number so far,” Garcia said.

At least 29 cases and 17 cases for resolution of their respective motions for reconsideration are still pending before the poll body, according to him.

Comelec targets to finish its resolution before the raffling of the numbers. A list of eligible party-lists and political parties will be posted on its website.
