A magnitude 5.7 earthquake rocked Northern Samar on Monday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake, which is tectonic in origin, struck at 11:39 a.m. Its epicenter was located at 34 kilometers north and west of Pambujan town and had a depth of focus of 54 kilometers.
Phivolcs earlier reported the tremor to be of magnitude 6. Intensity 5- was felt in Bobon, Catarman, Laoang, Lavezares, Palapag, Rosario, and San Roque in Northern Samar, while intensity 4 was experienced in Pilar and Sorsogon City, Sorsogon.
Intensity 3 was recorded in Legazpi City and Tabaco City in Albay; Virac in Catanduanes; Masbate City in Masbate; Bulusan and Irosin in Sorsogon, Burauen and Javier in Leyte.
Intensity 2 was felt in Calubian, Hilongos and Mahaplag in Leyte; Hinunangan and Sogod in Southern Leyte. No damage was also expected.
