President signs into law bill granting franchise to LEYECO II

Santiago City, Isabela – The Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association Inc. (PHILRECA) lauded President Marcos for signing into law a bill granting a 25-year franchise to the Leyte II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LEYECO II).

Republic Act No. 12017, which grants LEYECO II a franchise to construct, install, establish, operate and maintain distribution systems in Tacloban City, and in the municipalities of Babatngon and Palo in Leyte, was signed into law on August 9.

PHILRECA president Jose Raul Saniel said: “We thank President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for signing into law the bill granting a franchise to LEYECO II.”

PHILRECA executive director and general manager Atty. Janeene Depay-Colingan said this will further motivate LEYECO II to provide better service to its member-consumer-owners.

“This is an important milestone in ensuring that we continue to provide electricity services to our member-consumer-owners in the province of Leyte,” Colingan said.

PHILRECA also acknowledged the role and contribution of the so-called power bloc lawmakers Presley De Jesus (PhilRECA party-list) and Sergio Dagooc (APEC party-list) in the passage of the franchise bill.

LEYECO II has been a consistent Triple A rated electric cooperative since 2015, based on the EC Overall Performance Assessment conducted by the state-run National Electrification Administration.
