The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday encouraged local government units in the country to install 911 hotlines to combat the threat of La Nina phenomenon.
DILG and telco PLDT, Inc. have joined forces in revitalizing the country’s 911 emergency hotline but Abalos stressed that the 911 system will be more effective if LGUs will install their own local emergency call center citing US decentralized systems.
”The idea is to create a seamless, nationwide communication infrastructure for emergency services. We will make sure that we will use the latest tools and techniques around the world. We are now starting this,” said Abalos.
”The only thing we could do to implement this in the most efficient way is to [use] technology. That’s the only way.”
