300 MMDA personnel deployed for Paris Olympics Heroes Parade

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will send 300 men to manage traffic flow and guide motorists during the homecoming motorcade honoring Filipino athletes in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Aside from traffic enforcers, street sweepers are also included in the personnel deployment to ensure the orderliness and cleanliness of the parade.

The parade, scheduled at 3pm tomorrow, August 14, will begin at Aliw Theater and end at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

The 7.70-km parade route will make its way from Vicente Sotto Street, make a left turn towards Roxas Boulevard, and then, make a right turn towards P. Burgos going to Finance Road.

From there, it will make a right turn to Taft Avenue going to President Quirino Avenue, a left turn to Adriatico Street, and a right turn to Mendiola Street toward the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex – the motorcade’s final destination.

MMDA Chairman Don Artes ensures that the public will be given ample time to see Olympic medalists Carlos Yulo, Nesthy Petecio, and Aira Villegas, as well as the other Olympic athletes, in the homecoming parade.

“The speed of vehicles included in the parade will be 6 kilometers per hour to give the public the chance to see the Philippine Olympic team. Stop-and-go traffic scheme will be implemented and the approximate time for the parade is about 45 minutes,” he said.

He also said that the float carrying the Philippine Olympians would have a provision for rain cover, in the event of a heavy downpour.

Artes describes the homecoming parade as a victory celebration to honor the Olympic athletes, whom he calls “bagong bayani”.

“There will be a celebration, and at the same time honoring our athletes who worked very hard to achieve such a historic and extraordinary achievement in the Olympics,” he said.

The homecoming parade component includes MMDA motorcycle units, National Police, MMDA Band, media, ambulance, and the athletes aboard an elevated flatbed vehicle.

Artes also advised affected motorists of alternate routes during the time of the parade:
