The Public Works Department said Thursday it will construct a spur road going to Sangley Point International Airport in Cavite province this year.
Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said the spur road would improve the connectivity of Sangley Point where an international airport would be built as an alternative to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“We are waiting for the budget this month and hopefully we can finish significantly also this year,” he said.
The provincial government of Cavite earlier bid out the $10-billion international airport in Sangley Point. A consortium led by China Communication Construction Co. and MacroAsia Corp. of tycoon Lucio Tan offered to build the project.
The 1,500-hectare master-planned international airport will be fitted with four runways, airside and landside facilities with an annual capacity of up to 130 million passengers.
It is expected to be at par with Singapore’s Changi International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport and South Korea’s Incheon International Airport as it is positioned to be the next biggest development in air transport innovation in the country.
Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. also submitted a proposal to the Toll Regulatory Board to build an expressway from Manila-Cavite Expressway to Sangley Point.
Under its proposal, MPTC plans to construct Segment 5 of Cavitex”•a 22-kilometer road that will link Kawit to Noveleta to Sangley and then to Tanza also in Cavite.
It expects to start the construction of the first phase of the project”•the expressway going to Sangley”•by early 2021. Cavitex is a 14-kilometer expressway linking Manila and Cavite province.
