Rebels lay down arms in Sultan Kudarat

Seventeen armed individuals including a commander voluntarily surrendered to government troops in Barangay Lagandang, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

According to Lieutenant Col. Tristan Rey Vallescas, leader of the 7th Infantry (TAPAT) Battalion, the surrender of the armed groups this Friday is the result of intensified vigilance by the military and ensuring security in the area where the ‘rido’ or clan war took place.

They also surrendered their weapons which included: 19 M16A1s, six M14s, three Bushmaster Carbines, an M60 General Purpose Machine Gun, a set of Cal. 50 heavy machine guns, three AK47, one Cal. 30 BAR, a Cal. 50 Rifle, an Uzi M11, an M203 Grenade Launcher, magazines, and ammunition.

“We will continue to try to get all the loose firearms that cause violence in the area. We encourage everyone to immediately report to the authorities if there are people seen carrying weapons that are not authorized,” said the Division Commander.
