The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) reported that a total of 103 domestic and 11 international flights were canceled at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Wednesday due to bad weather attributed to Typhoon ‘Carina’ and the southwest monsoon (Habagat)
Philippine Airlines (PAL) Express suspended 13 local flights to and from Iloilo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Busuanga, and Bacolod.
Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific (CEB) and its sister airline CebGo canceled 58 flights to and from various destinations including Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Naga, San Jose, Masbate, Caticlan, Siargao, Legazpi, Tacloban, General Santos, Puerto Princesa, Butuan, Tagbilaran, Dumaguete, Roxas, Davao, Cauayan, Pagadian, Kalibo, and Dipolog.
PAL also suspended flights from Clark International Airport to and from Basco and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Eva Air, PAL, and CEB canceled flights to and from Taipei.
The MIAA media affairs division also stated that Royal Air diverted its Da Nang – Manila flight to Clark International Airport.
PAL’s flight PR 808 from Davao to Manila scheduled for Thursday was also canceled.
The management of PAL and CEB stated that “this is a developing situation and further changes are expected. There may be more cancellations depending on weather conditions.”
The airline urged travelers to regularly check the status of their flights by logging onto www.philippineairlines.com, visiting the Flight Status section, or checking further advisories on the Official PAL Facebook page.
“We advise you not to proceed to the airport if your flight is canceled, but instead avail of the rebooking options below,” PAL stated.
CEB officials also disclosed that NAIA Terminal 4, “where our Cebgo (DG) flights operate, is closed and inaccessible due to flooding. All arriving DG flights will be diverted to NAIA Terminal 3.”
“We appeal for your patience and understanding as we work towards normalizing our operations as soon as possible. We will provide updates as necessary.”
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported that commercial flight operations in Basco Airport were suspended, while the only flight operation scheduled for Wednesday at San Jose Airport was canceled, affecting 78 passengers at the Passenger Terminal Building.
Also suspended were the general aviation training flights at Iba Airport and Lubang Airport, and the aerodrome operations at Sangley Airport due to flooding on the runway and apron.
In Tacloban Airport, a commercial flight was suspended and four others were delayed, while two other flights in Cauayan Airport were canceled.
CAAP also reported that airports in Vigan and Lingayen, and the Laoag International are experiencing light to moderate rains with dark skies and light to moderate wind.
CAAP information officer Karen Villanda said agency personnel are on high alert to ensure the safety and assistance of all passengers during this period.
