The Department of Tourism (DOT) expressed confidence in maintaining the strong momentum of Philippine tourism achieved under the Marcos administration, highlighting President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s unwavering support for the sector.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco acknowledged the President’s prioritization of tourism, which led to record-breaking numbers and significant milestones in 2023, boosting the Philippines’ position as a rising tourism powerhouse in Asia.
“We are grateful to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. for his continued trust in Philippine tourism as a key economic driver for the country. The industry’s achievements in 2023, a truly remarkable year, are a testament to this,” Frasco said.
In 2023, tourism contributed 8.6 percent to the GDP, the highest growth rate in tourism direct gross value added in 24 years.
Total inbound and domestic visitor receipts reached P3.367 trillion, a substantial 75.3 percent increase from 2022.
Tourism investments surged to P509 billion, a significant increase of over 34 percent compared to 2022.
The Philippines welcomed 5.45 million international visitors, exceeding the target of 4.8 million.
Frasco emphasized the DOT’s innovative programs to elevate tourism services, expand opportunities nationwide, and enhance the tourist experience, resulting in longer stays and increased spending.
“Tourism has proven to be a force for good, providing livelihoods to 6.21 million Filipinos,” Frasco said.
As of July 19, 2024, the Philippines welcomed 3,326,354 international visitor arrivals.
Tourism earnings from inbound visitors reached P282.17 billion from January 1 to June 30, 2024, a 32.81 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Under the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) 2023-2028, the DOT is focused on sustainable tourism development through innovation, infrastructure enhancements, and collaboration with national and local government units.
