The La Niña phenomenon is expected to spawn above-normal rains from October to December in the National Capital Region (NCR), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Metro Manila must brace for heavy rainfall of up to over 140 percent in the last three months of the year, said Analiza Solis, Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section chief at PAGASA.
“October, November, (and) December, La Niña will most likely be a category. We have seen the possible impact of La Niña on our rainfall because the probability of having above-normal rainfall conditions is higher over most parts of the country,” she said.
“In terms of forecast rainfall, in percent generally, we see near-to above-normal rainfall conditions but dominantly above-normal rainfall conditions by October,” she added.
The metro is forecast to experience 146.4 percent of rainfall in October, 149.8 percent in November and 163.7 percent in December.
Pagasa earlier announced a La Niña watch, citing a 60 percent chance of La Niña to develop from June to August.
