Piolo Pascual and Julia Montes were beaming with pride and gratitude as they accepted their prestigious awards at the 7th edition of The Eddys, held on Sunday at the elegant Ceremonial Hall of Newport World Resorts in Pasay City.
Julia won for her exceptional performance in the film Five Breakups And A Romance, while Piolo was recognized for his role in Mallari.
“I’m still shaking. I was not expecting to win, so forgive me for shaking. I share this award with all the nominees—Romnick Sarmenta, you are my best actor,” Piolo said in his speech.
“I hold this close to my heart because it comes from friends in the industry. Thank you so much. As we celebrate Philippine Cinema, I am reminded of the task we have at hand to not just celebrate but carry on. We are leaving a good trail to be inspired by what we do… For Filipino cinema,” he added.
The Best Actress honor was shared by Julia and Charlie Dizon. Julia was lauded for her role in Five Breakups and a Romance, while Charlie was recognized for her performance in Third World Romance.
“Just being nominated felt amazing, but winning this award is incredibly inspiring and pushes me to do even better,” Julia said in her speech.
Charlie, who couldn’t attend the event, made history by winning her second The Eddys Best Actress award. She won her first Best Actress award for the film Fan Girl during the event’s 4th edition in 2021.
Enchong Dee won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Padre Zamora in the multi-awarded historical film GomBurZa, while Gladys Reyes took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Brillante Mendoza’s Apag.
“I kept wondering why I felt my performance wasn’t enough to be noticed and recognized, but now, I want to say thank you. You reminded me that it’s not about the length but the impact and how much you make your audience feel. I really appreciate this award. I will never forget this night,” Enchong said in his speech.
“I share this award with everyone behind GomBurZa and to all those who are waiting for justice. This story represents those who are waiting for justice, and I hope they achieve it. Thank you so much. This night will never be forgotten,” he added.
Meanwhile, Gladys expressed her gratitude for her award, noting that it was her first time being nominated at The Eddys.
“This is my first time being nominated here, and I won! What more could I ask for? It’s incredibly inspiring to work hard when your efforts are recognized,” Gladys said during a casual interview backstage.
