Combined operatives from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have arrested a Colombian national who was the consignee of a shipment containing liquid cocaine worth more than P8.5 million.
The shipment, declared as “Clothing Remindershat capi product” arrived last June 21, and was subjected to rigid inspection in light of intelligence information on the package.
“A physical examination was conducted due to unusual x-ray images and K-9 sniffing was likewise conducted and indicated possible presence of illegal substances,” according to BOC district collector Erastus Sandino Austria.
He said examination of the shipment led to the discovery of three plastic bottles of yellowish liquid substance and found to contain “mixture of PET plastic, ephedrine and ethyl benzoate, cyclohexyl fentanyl and opioid,”
During a controlled delivery operation, the agents apprehended the 32-year-old Colombian national in Makati City.
Austria reiterated the Port of Clark’s commitment to the BOC’s anti-illegal drugs campaign, saying the BOC is steadfast in its commitment in preventing the entry of illegal drugs into the Philippines.
“Through rigorous inspections and coordinated efforts with other law enforcement agencies, we aim to safeguard the nation from the dangers of drug trafficking and ensure the safety and welfare of all Filipinos,” he added.
