Lorenzo Lucindo knocked a goal midway in the first half to lead the Ateneo Blue Eaglets to 1-0 triumph over the Nazareth School-National University Bullpups on Wednesday in the 82nd University Athletic Association of the Philippines Junior Football Tournament at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Lucindo connected near the 30th-minute mark after getting a pass from Stephen Herrera and sending the Blue Eaglets to their second straight victory.
The Blue Eaglets, coached by Dodjie Locsin, will seek to stretch their winning streak to three when they take on De La Salle-Zobel at 1:30 p.m this Sunday at the FEU-Diliman field.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University started its bid for a 10th straight championship on a bright note with a clinical 6-0 swamping of the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs.
Edmar Adonis tallied a brace in the first period to set the tone for the Baby Tamaraws.
Adonis, a forward, started in place of Tarshish Garciano, who suffered a freak injury during the warm-ups. Adonis scored goals in the 11th and in the 15th minutes to give FEU a 2-0 advantage early.
Then, Josh Laurens closed the first period with a 43rd-minute strike and a 3-0 halftime advantage.
The Bulldogs, who dropped out of the lead, will be FEU’s next opponent at 4 p.m.
Stephen Soria, Karl Absalon and Andrei Sabejon netted a goal each in the second half to complete the rout for FEU.
