OCD rapid deployment team, water filtration truck arrive in Negros Occidental

The Office Civil Defense (OCD) announced on Monday it has delivered a water filtration truck and mobilized a rapid deployment team to serve evacuees from La Carlota City and La Castellana in Negros Occidental in the wake of Mount Kanlaon’s eruption last week.

The team arrived early Saturday morning to assist the local government units (LGUs) in ongoing disaster relief activities. Volcanic ashfall has reportedly contaminated water sources in various areas across Negros Occidental, prompting the need for immediate water filtration services.

The OCD sent its equipment and team to support these efforts. The water filtration equipment can produce 50,000 liters of water per day to serve the volcanic eruption victims. The OCD team will stay in the province for two weeks.

“We organized a team who will provide water filtration services since water contamination due to ashfall is being experienced there,” said Civil Defense Administrator, Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno.

“We are in constant coordination with the affected regions to augment the response efforts and provide their needs or requests,” the OCD official added.

Meanwhile, a coordination meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) regarding Kanlaon response operations will be held this afternoon.

OCD continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with the affected regions to augment the response efforts when needed.

As of today, June 10, a total of 1,177 families in Western Visayas and 83 families in Central Visayas are inside evacuation centers respectively.

Kanlaon Volcano remains on Alert Level 2.
