DOJ urges calm among drivers amid rising road rage incidents

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla issued a stern warning to drivers on Thursday, urging them to avoid resorting to violence during traffic altercations or instances of road rage that could lead to serious injuries or fatalities.

“There is no reason or cause to disregard one’s life because of road rage,” Remulla emphasized in a statement. “It is best to always bear in mind each time we are behind the wheel that life is a hundred times more precious than our egos.”

Remulla’s advice followed the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office’s decision to indict Gerard Raymund Yu for murder and violating Republic Act (RA) 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Yu was arrested on May 29, a day after a traffic altercation in Makati City in which he allegedly shot and killed 66-year-old driver Ancieto Mateo.

“We have an airtight case based on available evidence and witnesses,” Remulla stated, expressing confidence in the conviction of the accused.
