IPOPHL keeps 13th global rank in innovation

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) said it maintained its position in the World Trademark Review’s 2024 IP Office Innovation Ranking at 13th place.

The ranking recognizes IP offices based on various online metrics and services offered.

It highlighted IPOPHL’s effective awareness and education campaigns, extending beyond the online realm. More than 100 trademark practitioners from 48 jurisdictions participated in the survey, with IPOPHL’s “dynamic and innovative” work throughout the pandemic getting commendation.

Participants also noted IPOPHL’s success in “spreading IP awareness among the public,” particularly within educational institutions.

The recognition is attributed to the efforts of IPOPHL’s IP Academy, a dedicated unit for IP education, research and professionalization. The academy has been actively conducting IP roadshows across various regions, bringing the world of IP closer to schools and students.

It also organizes engaging events like the IP Career Expo, IP CIRCLE League competitions and IP Homecoming programs, geared to spark students’ interest in intellectual property and showcase career opportunities in the field.

The IP Academy offers internship and practicum programs that provide graduates and undergraduates with hands-on experience in IP operations.

“IPOPHL will sustain its efforts to bring IP not just to law students but all types of students and professionals who focus their energies on making ideas come to life, whether in the form of artworks, innovations, and business products that can make an impact,” said IPOPHL director-general Rowel barba.
