Jessica Soho honored with excellence award in Dubai

Acclaimed broadcast journalist Jessica Soho adds another accolade to her name by receiving the Icon of Media Excellence Award at the Global Filipino Icon Awards held on May 17 in Dubai, United Arab Emerates.

Now in its fourth year, the Global Filipino Icon Awards recognizes individuals and organizations that have excelled in their respective fields, raising the Philippine flag on the global stage. The event is organized by “The Global Filipino Magazine,” a prominent publication based in Dubai and is known as the fastest growing Filipino magazine in the Middle East.

In her acceptance speech, the Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho host lauded all the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who have been sacrificing so much to provide for their families in the Philippines.

This award humbles me to my very core. To me, the true icons, heroes, excellent, and outstanding individuals are you—OFWs, Global Filipinos, Global Pinoys. Words fall short in describing your greatness, especially for all the sacrifices you make, especially parents far from their children. You truly represent the best of us—you are the epitome of being Filipino,” Soho said.

Soho expressed her eagerness to share the stories of OFWs with the world, emphasizing that there’s likely no corner of the world today without a Filipino. She thanked Global Pinoys for their assistance to fellow Filipinos, acknowledging their generosity and wishing for divine repayment of their kindness.

With a crowd of 250 attendees from the Filipino community across the UAE, the Global Filipino Icon Awards was also attended by Dubai-based fashion icon Michael Cinco who was given the Lifetime Achievement Award in Fashion Excellence. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and Cory Quirino were also given the Icon of Elegance and Purpose Award and Excellence in Media and Pageantry, respectively.

Apart from receiving the award, Soho filmed a Dubai episode for KMJS airing in June.

The show, celebrating its 20th anniversary, continues to make a significant impact globally. Recognized for its contributions, KMJS recently won awards like “Most Development-Oriented Public Service Program” at the 18th Gandingan Awards and “Most Popular TV Program for News and Public Affairs” at the Box Office Entertainment Awards.

KMJS airs every Sunday at 8:15 p.m. on GMA 7.
