With three additional power substations coming up, Albay expects to be a brownout-free province this year.
.AkoBicol party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co, chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Committee, bared that P500 million has been allocated as subsidy to rehabilitate the Albay Electric Cooperative Inc. (ALECO).
The fund has been deposited with the National Electrification Administration (NEA) prior to implementation of the projects.
Ako Bicol executive director Alfredo Garbin in his Facebook post said the projects would enhance ALECO’s grid capability to manage and distribute electricity, reducing overloads and power outages.
“The upgraded electrical facilities will maintain consistent voltage levels, improve reliability and enhance economic growth as it will lead to fewer business disruptions, increased productivity, and the potential to attract new businesses, fostering job creation and economic growth,” he explained.
ALECO vice president Cezar Bordeos Jr. cited the electric cooperative for address the pressing problems on power outages.
Bordeos said ALECO’s documents for submission to the NEA were almost complete, with one of the proposed substations to be built in Culliat, Daraga, Albay to serve the Bicol International Airport (BIA), he second to empower San Miguel Island, and the third in Ligao City.
He said aside from the substations, the P500-million fund is more than enough to rehabilitate power lines, dilapidated reclosers, and transformers.
